Question 2 Facts

Dear Mason Families and Community Members,

We have been working closely with our state representatives around the potential impacts of HB 1300 / Ballot Question 2 on our school district. I know many of you have seen the yard signs and social media posts surrounding HB 1300, and I wanted to share an important update directly with you.

Over the past weeks, we have been in close communication with our local representatives, Rep. Flanagan and Rep. Suiter (Rep. Pauer declined our request for a meeting). Throughout this process, we were holding out hope that if the tax cap passed, it would only apply to administrative costs.

However, today we were officially notified by our representative, who confirmed that the entire school budget would be capped if Ballot Question 2 passes on November 3rd—not just administrative overhead.

This would be devastating for the Mason School District. Because administrative costs make up only 3.5% of our overall budget, there is simply no excess operational overhead to trim. A cap on the total budget would fail to cover our non-negotiable, mandatory increases for high school and middle school tuition and student transportation, forcing us to make immediate, deep cuts to teaching staff and direct student programming.

We have attached a detailed one-page Fact Sheet to this email so you can see the exact numbers, how our budget works, and what this ballot question would mean for our students, teachers, and classrooms.

Please take a moment to review the attached flyer, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and our school.
