Mason House System

At Mason Elementary School, we believe that education extends far beyond academics. While academic excellence is a cornerstone of our school, we are equally committed to developing the character, habits, and relationships that prepare students to become successful learners, responsible citizens, and compassionate members of their communities.

 

The Mason House System is built around seven core values that we believe are essential for success both inside and outside the classroom:

 

 

Inspired by the House System developed at the Ron Clark Academy, our program creates meaningful opportunities for students to build relationships across grade levels, develop leadership skills, and strengthen our school community.

 

As a one-class-per-grade school, students spend many years learning alongside the same classmates. The House System intentionally expands those connections by bringing together students from every grade level, allowing them to build lasting friendships, develop meaningful relationships with staff throughout the building, and become part of a school community that extends beyond their individual classroom.

 

All preschool students begin their Mason journey as members of the House of Self-Control, where they develop the foundational skills needed for success in school. As students transition into kindergarten, they take part in a special House Sorting Ceremony and are welcomed into one of the six remaining houses: Honesty, Gratitude, Respect, Self-Reliance, Determination, or Responsibility. From that moment on, they remain members of their house throughout their years at Mason Elementary School. Their house becomes a source of pride, encouragement, and support as they participate in school-wide activities, service projects, celebrations, and friendly competitions.

 

While each house is named for a specific character value, every student is expected to demonstrate all seven values each day. The House System reminds us that success is measured not only by academic achievement but also by the way we treat others, overcome challenges, contribute to our community, and grow as individuals.

 

More than a program, the Mason House System is a reflection of who we are as a school community. It reinforces the values we strive to live each day, strengthens connections across grade levels, and helps ensure that every child feels known, valued, and connected.

 

Through the Mason House System, students discover that character matters, relationships matter, and together we are stronger than any one individual. These commitments are reflected in our House Creed, which serves as a daily reminder of the values and principles that unite us as one Mason community.
